Ahead of the third round of the ‘Mini Sport Mini Cup’ and the HRCR’s Old Stager Championship, the HRCR provide us with a report on what to expect at the third round of the 2016 championship, based at the RAF Base in Down Ampney, Gloucestershire. On May 28th twenty-three HRCR registered crews will tackle the former RAF base at Down Ampney in Gloucestershire on the Red Dragon IT Stages promoted by ECMOS as the third round of the ‘old Stager’ Championship incorporating the Mini Sport Mini Cup.
The rally comprises 8 stages giving the crews 65 stage miles. The venue mainly consists of a concrete surface but the venue it known for its slippery surfaces in some parts. The event will be a non-spectating venue.
Cat One.
Stephen Hall / Aggie Foster will once again be out challenging for the Cat One win in their Triumph TR4. Peter Ellerby / Phillip Swanborough in their Regent Roofing Morris Mini, Adrian Kermode / Maurice Beckett in the Corkills VW Wigans Mini and Shane Gamble / Bob Ward will all contest this category and the Minisport Mini Challenge. Mathew / Daniel Evans will bring their Hillman Imp along once again to gain some valuable time in the car and hopefully take some points away.
Cat Two.
John Worthing / John Cadwallader will bring their Ford Escort out after having suffered engine trouble on the last round. Alongside John, Peter Lewis / Alan Jones in their Escort will be looking to take points off them together with Simon Malins / Colin Tombs in the Wizbang engineering Vauxhall Firenza. Clive King / Aton Bird will be leading the Mini pack away with Andrew O’Hanlon / Ryan Taylor looking to improve on last rounds luck and bringing some well needed points.
Eric Davis will have a temporary co driver of Nigel Dutson in the RP Joinery Mini as regular Co Driver Russell Joseph will be at a family wedding. Paul and daughter Jemma Taylor will be out in their blue Mini, Stuart Hart / Thomas Murphy in the Hart Events Mini and Rhodri Owen Roberts will complete that category.
Cat Three.
Regulars Stuart and Jack Anderson and Brue Mills / Paul Kendrick have repaired their cars after the damage sustained on the Dixies Historic Challenge, Bruce having considerable amount of work to make the Mini right.
Kevin and Lee Jones will hopefully have the mis-firing sorted in the GTO Engineering Ferrari 308 Michelotto. Lee and son Sean Sellars will be in the Triumph 2.5 PI hopefully staying away from the bales this time.
In all 14 Minis will be out with Jonathan / Nigel Bennett, Martin Melling / Carmel Venables in the M & H / Cancer Research Mini. Jim Brindle / Darren Meadows, Nigel Hart and Lyndon Moulton completing the Mini Sport Challenge.
